Buying a used robot mower: include the account in the handover
Sources awaiting check
A used robot mower can arrive with its charger and still have an unfinished handover. Include connected accounts, access arrangements and support requirements in the purchase conversation before taking the machine home.
Separate ownership from app access
Start with the seller's ownership evidence and the mower's exact identity. Record the model and serial number on the sale receipt. Ask what accessories, installation components and documents are included, and what remains at the seller's property.
Being able to see a mower in an app does not replace evidence of ownership. Equally, a receipt does not tell you whether the previous connected account has been removed. Treat these as separate checks.
Use the manufacturer's handover process
Husqvarna UK: selling or buying a used connected product recommends that sellers remove products from Husqvarna Connect or Automower Connect when selling. It explains that otherwise the seller continues collecting data from the product. Its buyer guidance asks purchasers to have the previous owner remove the product from those apps.
That is guidance for the named manufacturer's services, checked on 23 October 2026. Do not assume the same menus, reset procedure or account rules apply to another brand.
Before agreeing the sale, locate the exact model's current transfer guidance. If the seller cannot complete the process, ask manufacturer support what evidence and action are required. Do not buy on an assurance that an unofficial PIN reset or account bypass will solve it later.
Make a handover appointment
Agree a time when both parties can complete the authorised steps. Have the model details, ownership paperwork and official instructions ready. Each person should use their own account; there is no need to exchange account passwords.
Write down which steps were completed and which remain pending. Ask about any separately purchased connectivity service, remaining subscription, warranty conditions or dealer registration, without assuming these transfer automatically.
Check the contents of the equipment bundle at the same appointment. A charging station, power supply or reference station shown in an advert should appear clearly on the receipt if included. The account transfer does not establish compatibility with components obtained elsewhere.
Plan the new installation separately
Ask what setup is required for the buyer's lawn and arrange the appropriate survey or installation support. A mower working at the seller's house is not evidence that its previous map or boundary arrangement suits a different garden.
Retain the receipt, transfer record and support reference together. If account removal or new-owner registration remains unresolved, settle that before relying on the mower. A clear handover gives the buyer a defined starting point and helps the seller close out their connection to the product.
